Trekking the Hampta Pass in the Lahaul Spiti Valley

Hamta Pass (4270 mt) in Lahoul Valley over Pir Panjal Range offers a close view of Mt. Deo Tibba, Mt. Indrasan and their Glaciers. A moderate trek starting from Manali can be done each year from May to October. A popular excursion and a traditional alternative route between Lahoul Spiti and Kullu Valley before the road was made over the Rohtang Pass

Day 1:Mumbai - Chandigarh / Amballa Cant. Take the Paschim Express at 11.35 am to Chandigarh station. Day 2: Chandigarh - Manali Reach Chandigarh at 3 pm and transfer to Manali by bus. Day 3: Manali Reach Manali in the morning and Camp at Prini. Day is free for rest and acclimatization. Day 4: Manali – Pandu Ropa Start the Trek to Pandu Ropa This is a 4 hours trek which goes steeply along side of Hamta Nala through the forest. Overnight is in tents. Day 5: Pandu – Ropa to Chika (5 hrs) Gradual up trek passes through forest and meadow up to Chikka camp, and ideal site with water and firewood. Overnight in tents Day 6: Chika – Balu Gera (8km / 4 hrs) Steep Climb up to Juara and then gradual climb up to the camp site at Balu Ka Gera. Overnight in tents. Day 7: Balu Ka Gera – Hamta Pass – Chika Steep ascent up to Hamta Pass for 3 kms and then descent on the other side in steep slope up to Camp Site. Mt Deo Tibba and Indrasan are visible along with a wide view of the Lahoul Valley. Day 8: Chika – Manali Back to Manali by nightfall. Overnight at Manali Day 9: Manali – Chandigarh Full day free in Manali. In the evening take the bus to Chandigarh Day 10: Chandigarh – Mumbai Reach Chandigrah in the morning and take the train to Mumbai at 11.35 am Day 11: Mumbai Reach Mumbai at 2.30 pm
